ABOUT US
Who We Are
We are a binational (U.S.-Mexico) ensemble dedicated to the living tradition of Latinamerican theatre — from its boldest political voices to its most intimate personal stories.
OUR STORY
Anima Latina Ensemble was founded with a clear belief: that Latinamerican stories deserve a dedicated stage, told with artistic rigor and deep community roots.
We work at the intersection of art and social equity — producing world-class theatre while remaining grounded in the communities whose stories we tell. Every production is an act of cultural affirmation.
Our ensemble brings together directors, playwrights, designers, and performers from across Latin America and the Latino diaspora. Together we forge a space where language, memory, and imagination collide.
Curatorial Vision
We are committed to showcasing the breadth, depth, and vitality of Latin American performance traditions.
Our artistic programming is built around four interconnected pillars:
1.
Classical Latin American Works
We revisit the landmark texts that have shaped Latin American theatre, bringing new life to the playwrights, movements, and dramatic traditions that continue to define our cultural imagination. These works connect contemporary audiences with the intellectual and artistic heritage of the region.
2.
Contemporary Latin American Plays
We bring to the stage the work of contemporary Latin American playwrights whose voices are shaping the theatre of today. From established to emerging writers, we produce plays that reflect the complexity, diversity, and dynamism of contemporary Latin American life.
3.
New Commissions and Devised Work
We commission new works and develop original devised productions in collaboration with playwrights, performers, directors, and communities. These projects create space for new stories, new forms, and new perspectives to emerge.
4.
Interdisciplinary Performance Works
Movement, music, and ritual have long been at the heart of Latin American cultural expression. We create interdisciplinary performances seeking new aesthetic forms through which the richness of our stories, memories, and identities are told.
What Drives Us
Cultural Affirmation
We believe Latin American stories are universal. We put them at the center of culture to create bridges of understanding and shared humanity.
Social Equity
Art is a right, not a privilege. We design our work to be accessible, affordable, and reflective of our community.
Artistic Excellence
We strive for artistic rigor and a deep sense of care in every production, play, and program we bring to life.
